7 day explore Isle of Skye Lodge
WHAT TO EXPECT The Isle of Skye is home to some of Scotland's most loved places and its common knowledge that the island sees its fair share of visitors. The one secret of the island is its spectacular, and often very quiet coastline, particularly the sea Lochs of Western Skye. Our base for the week is perfectly situated for exploring these wild and remote sections of coastline, and exploring by day trips rather than an expedition allows us flexibility to choose locations to suit the islands changeable conditions and a comfortable base to return to each evening.
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS A 7 day explore trip based from a brilliantly situated lodge in a quiet corner of the Isle of Skye - explore wild coastline straight from the front door.
- Journey in Loch Bracadale - home to towering sea stacks, sea caves and remote uninhabited islands.
- Relax in comfortable accommodation after a days sea kayak journeying.
- A great chance to progress your experience and skill, we'll experience a variety of sea conditions and challenges through the week.
- Look for White Tailed Eagles taking off from the cliffs above.
*OVER THE SEA - We’ll meet in Fort William and then drive to the Isle of Skye, we’ll head over the Skye bridge and choose somewhere on South Skye to paddle for the afternoon. There is a wonderful choice of trips here and Ord, with its rich wildlife, shallow water and mountain backdrop is a particular highlight. After paddling we’ll then drive to the lodge situated in the North West of the island. The lodge is in a wonderful setting with Dunvegan castle opposite, Macleods tables behind and the Cuillin ridge in the background. We can explore on foot from the lodge if we wish.

TRIP GRADE This is a lodge based trip where we paddle day trips. We will paddle variable distances each day depending on conditions but these could include days of up to 15 - 20km. The location has lots of flexibility and we will choose a location that suits the conditions on the day, we will likely experience some more challenging conditions through the week and would expect to be paddling in wind and waves on the trip. The paddling will be progressive and we will work with the group to make sure that the trips are achievable and fun for people with some existing skill and confidence in a sea kayak.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Individuals, couples or small groups of friends. This trip is not suitable for families.
A lot of learning about sea kayaking comes from experience and is best done as individuals on the move and in context. We won't spend time on long instructional briefings or static group skills practice but will give you hints and tips on the journey to make it easier for you and suggest improvements to your technique as we go along. We'll help you develop your knowledge and sea kayak handling skill throughout the trip but also allow plenty of time simply to enjoy the journey and the experience of sea kayaking.
The weather on the West coast of Scotland can vary through the course of the season and from area to area - Scottish islands and coastline can see dramatically better weather and more sunshine than more mountainous areas inland. The wind speed and sea state are the primary factors that affect the trip - if the conditions are difficult then we will seek out a more sheltered section of coast to run the trip. You should note that it is very rare that we have to stay off the water on multi-day trips and the vast majority of trips run as planned. For full terms and conditions see the link below. You can read more about the weather/cancellation/booking on our FAQ page.
Midges are most active during mid summer, although it only takes a light breeze or direct sunlight to keep them away and they don't venture out onto the sea so most of the time they are not something we experience a problem with. On this trip we have accommodation and so it is very unlikely we'll experience any problem with midges.
A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking, the balance is due 6 weeks prior to the trip, for cancellation policy please see our full terms and conditions.
