Grade:
Bespoke
Bespoke The trip can be tailored to the experience and fitness of the group - up to any level of experience. As a minimum we'd recomend you have some sea kayaking experience.
- As a minimum you should ideally already have some prior experience and confidence in a sea kayak, or other paddlesports experience or experience of journeying or expeditions with another adventure sport. If camping and sea kayaking are brand new to you then we'd recomend getting some sea kayaking experience first, such as an introduction course, before heading out on an expedition.
- The conditions we paddle in, the length of the expedition and the amount of coaching can all be tailored to meet the needs of the group.

We are based in Arisaig village and Banavie (Fort William) and so most of our bespoke expeditions take place in the Sound of Arisaig - this is a fantastic area for kayak expeditions but if you've already paddled here then you may want to visit another location.
Here are some other ideas of bespoke expeditions we have completed in the last few seasons -
A weekend exploration of the Summer Isles in the Northwest Highlands - meeting at Inverness or Ullapool.
An 8 day expedition around the Orkney mainland - setting off from John O'Groats and paddling across the Pentland Firth and back.
A 4 day expedition in the North West Highlands, exploring Oldany island and Kylesku - great for those with some sea kayaking experience.
A 7 day expedition to the Outer Hebrides, exploring the Sound of Harris, crossing to the Monarch Isles and circunavigating North Uist.
A weekend expedition exploring Loch Bracadale on Skye.
Scotland has endless expedition potential - feel free to get in touch if you have an idea!
Accommodation For this trip we will be wild camping.
Food We can include food in the rate if required.
Start and Finish Meet at Banavie or Arisaig for a Sound of Arisaig expedition or elsewhere if we are paddling in a different area.

Kit List Our expedition kit list applies to this trip. All specialist kayaking equipment and some camping equipment can be provided. If you own your own camping or kayaking gear then we'd prefer it if you brought your own kit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes - a lot of learning about sea kayaking comes from experience and is best done as individuals on the move and in context. We won't spend time on long instructional briefings or static group skills practice during an expedition but will give you hints and tips on the journey to make it easier for you and suggest improvements to your technique as we go along. We'll help you develop your knowledge and sea kayak handling skill throughout the trip but also allow plenty of time simply to enjoy the journey and the experience of sea kayaking.
The weather on the West coast of Scotland can vary through the course of the season and from area to area - Scottish islands and coastline can see dramatically better weather and more sunshine than more mountainous areas on the West coast. The wind speed and sea state are the primary factors that affect the trip - if the conditions are difficult then we will seek out a more sheltered section of coast to run the trip. You should note that it is very rare that we have to stay off the water on multi-day trips and the vast majority of trips run as planned. For full terms and conditions see the link below. You can read more about the weather/cancellation/booking on our FAQ page.
A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking, the balance is due 11 weeks prior to the trip, for cancellation policy please see our full terms and conditions.
We have a much larger FAQ page that covers all aspects of sea kayak trips with us.
